My WordPress Blog

Randy Nolt, MSW

Hi! I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and families who are looking for help around challenges with ADHD, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, and those that are twice exceptional. I believe that everyone, child or adult, has inherent resiliency that we can tap into to promote change. I view my role as helping individuals discover their capabilities and strengths to overcome life challenges. Many times, this means helping them identify new coping strategies, ways to communicate with others, and an overall healthier way of living.

I have worked with children, teens and their caregivers, as well as adults in a variety of clinical settings for the past 20 years. I started my career at a therapeutic wilderness school for adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges in Central Virginia. Additionally, I served as the Program Director at Piedmont CASA supporting individual, families, and the community in the non-profit sector. Throughout, I have valued the unique challenges and strengths of each family and have honed my therapeutic perspective. As a clinician, I draw upon modalities based in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment Theory, and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) to help those I work with achieve their goals.

I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Economics and soon after realized that I preferred to work with people. I earned my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and am currently working towards full licensure under the supervision of Sarah Lotchin, LCSW.

In my time away from work, I re-energize myself by being outdoors and connecting with nature. I enjoy camping and traveling with my son and wife. On the weekends, we fill our time with coaching youth soccer, hiking, and spending time with our 150 pound Newfoundland Dog, Oggie. I provide face-to-face, walk-and-talk, and teletherapy out of the Charlottesville-North office and can be reached directly at rnolt@virginiafamilytherapy.com.
