Hello. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with teenagers and young adults struggling with school issues, depression, anxiety, addiction, rule-breaking behaviors, and family issues. I also specialize in working with children identified with developmental disorders and their families. My goal is to help my clients reach their maximum potential at work, school, and at home– even if it feels hard. For those that have been resistant to therapy in the past (specifically teenage boys), my humor, creativity, and relaxed nature tend to help my clients feel more relaxed and open about therapy. I use this openness to promote change.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wyoming and my Master’s in Counseling from Adams State University. My experience ranges from working in therapeutic days schools as well as community-based mental health with a focus on addiction. Throughout my experience, I have valued developing strong, natural relationships with my clients.
I’ve lived in Charlottesville for the last five years with my wife, Alexandra Werntz, Ph.D. (also a therapist at VFT), and our three hairless cats. I play drums in a local band and enjoy the music around town. I work out of the Charlottesville-East office and can be reached directly at jczywczynski@virginiafamilytherapy.com
