I specialize in working with children and adolescents struggling with depression, grief and loss, anxiety, and identity. I am particularly passionate about empowering LGBTQ youth.
I was born and raised in Charlottesville and graduated from CHS. I earned my Bachelor’s from the University of Virginia where I double majored in Psychology and English in the Area Program for Poetry Writing. I received my Masters of Social Work at the Smith College School for Social Work in Massachusetts, where I provided individual and group therapy to High School students.
I use a collaborative strengths-based approach to partner with my clients and their families. With younger children, I am active, play, and use humor to connect and promote change. With adolescents, I use more talk therapy and am warm, supportive, and empathetic in our relationship.
Outside the office, I love trying new recipes, writing poetry, and singing. I am a supervisee in Social Work under the supervision of Sarah Lewis, LCSW. I offer teletherapy and currently have after school appointments available. You can reach me directly at hatkins@virginiafamilytherapy.com.
